Google to buy DocVerse introduce Microsoft Office doc collaboration

The war between Microsoft and Google for your web-based document business just got a lot more serious.

Google has been positioning Google Apps as an Office killer and encouraging companies to adopt it. Meanwhile, Microsoft countered with a web-based component to Office 2010. The latest move comes from Google, though, with the acquisition of DocVerse.

DocVerse is a service that allows users to collaborate on Microsoft Office documents. With DocVerse in its portfolio, Google will be able to let Google Apps users work online with their existing Office docs.

In other words, Google is creating one less reason why anyone will need Microsoft Office in 2010. How DocVerse will be integrated into Google’s existing products remains to be seen, but this move will certainly make the battle for office app supremacy more interesting.

Your move, Microsoft!

Windows 8 may enter the market already in 2011

A number of Western internet resources appeared unexplained document, which contains new product release schedule for Microsoft. Schedule covers the next few years. From it, in particular, that the client operating system is Windows 8 will be released as early as 1 July 2011. The new OS will be 128-bit, it will support technology clusters, and one-way replication. In addition, it is expected “to radically change access to the files. Does a given phrase emergence of a new file system – is unclear.

Let me remind you: have repeatedly reported that work on Windows 8 is just beginning, and the new system scheduled to be available no earlier than 2012. It should replace Windows 7, which by that time already, as expected, morally obsolete.

Keeping Up With Google Is Essential To SEO Success

“With the recent deal that brought Microsoft’s own search engine, Bling, to Yahoo, Google has had to add a little juice to its already popular search engine, to keep in line with its new competition,” said Peter. “This has forced many website owners to concentrate on some exciting Google features that were likely not considered when their sites were first developed.”

One of those features, according to Crisafi, is Google’s “local results.”

“Google has done a great job of geo-targeting its search results,” says Crisafi. “Any company that relies on local business needs to take advantage of this specialized Google search function.”

Another popular function of Google’s search engine, Crisafi says, is its “recent results” feature, which boosts sites with recently updated relevant content.

“This is why it is imperative,” says Crisafi, “to keep a website’s content fresh.”

Crisafi says that other useful features include Google’s “related results” which gives users suggested keyword terms related to their search, Google’s “timeline” feature which shows the frequency by which pages have been updated in relation to certain search terms, and “Google Local” which, if taken advantage of properly, will post relevant sites within Google’s map feature.

“With so many options out there for those searching for information through Google, the possibilities are endless for website owners who want to dominate their particular market,” says Crisafi. “To do so, however, website owners must rely on professional search engine optimization experts who are familiar with everything that Google has to offer.”

What?Internet Explorer 8 Safest Browser Available

Internet Explorer 8 Safest Browser Available

Seeing on a Saturday morning an entry titled Most Secure Browser: Internet Explorer 8 in my feedreader certainly did not help my hangover and having read the entry 3 times now I think I still am living a vivid Friday night session. Bloggers love Firefox and many of us will never change because of the flexibility and extensions available for Firefox. You need to know it though: the safest browser out there is Internet Explorer 8!

I am sure you now all have fired up IE8 of course. Nor did I, but that’s mainly because I’m on a Mac and have not touched Windows at all anymore since I switched two years ago. Still it is a fact now and Microsoft Evangelist Giorgio Sardo published the results of a security poll, conducted by NSS Labs among the 5 top browsers and Internet Explorer 8 came out on top.

Especially in the malware detection department IE8 scored very well and left any other browser far behind.

  • Internet Explorer 8 “was by far the best”, thanks to the SmartScreen® Filter technology
  • Firefox 3 “comes in a distant second”
  • Safari 4 presented a declined compared to the previous tests, with two short periods of sever security dips
  • Chrome 2 performed very consistently, albeit very poorl

What is ctfmon.exe And Why Is It Running?

You are no doubt reading this article because you are frustrated with the ctfmon.exe process that just won’t stop opening no matter what you do. You remove it from the startup items and it just magically reappears. So what is it?

Ctfmon is the Microsoft process that controls Alternative User Input and the Office Language bar. It’s how you can control the computer via speech or a pen tablet, or using the onscreen keyboard inputs for asian languages.

If you are using any of the above, you should leave it enabled. For everybody else, we’ll get to the job of disabling this annoying service.

image

Depending on your system configuration, there are a number of different steps to disable it. I’ve tried to list all the methods below.

Step 1: Disabling in Microsoft Office 2003

We can remove the alternative text input from Microsoft Office 2003 by just removing that feature in the setup.

Note: I haven’t figured out where the equivalent setting is for Office 2007 (if there is one), but we can also disable it a different way below.

Go to Add/Remove programs, choose to Change your installation of Microsoft Office and make sure you check the box for “Choose advanced customization of applications” before you hit next.

image

Find “Alternative User Input” in the list and change the dropdown to “Not available” so it looks like this:

image

Step 2a: Disabling in Windows XP

There’s an additional step we can take to make sure it gets turned off in Windows XP, which really seems to be the best answer for XP users.

Open up Control Panel and choose Regional and Language Options.

image

Choose the Languages tab and then click on Details in the top section.

image

Now on the Advanced tab you can choose to “Turn off advanced text services”, which should immediately close ctfmon.

image

You’ll also want to take a look at the first Settings tab, and make sure that your “Installed Services” box looks similar to this one:

image

If you have more than one Installed service then ctfmon might come back… For instance on my system there was an input for my drawing tablet so I could use it as a text input… which I don’t care about, so I clicked Remove on it.

Step 2b: Disabling in Windows Vista

The setting above for completely disabling text services doesn’t seem to exist in Windows Vista as far as I can tell, but we can remove the additional input services using a similar method.

Open Control Panel, choose Regional and Language Options and then find “Change keyboards or other input methods”.
